Examinee Information

To achieve final Apprenticeship certification, the apprentices must have completed and achieved the Care Certificate and the diploma.

The End-Point Assessment and diploma can be studied at the same time, but both must be achieved to meet the Apprenticeship standard. The assessment will show that the apprentice can apply their knowledge, skills and behaviours in a combined way and will meet the requirements for the award of an Apprenticeship certificate.

Delivery of training up to the end point will be considered as one programme, with the outcome of the endpoint assessment only counting towards the achievement of the Apprenticeship certificate.

As the test has to be in the end period of the Apprenticeship and has to be undertaken in multiple formats, the group proposes the following format of tests which will be graded:

  • Multiple choice situational judgement test (50% of final grading).

  • The situational judgement test will present the candidate with a set of real-life scenarios about which the learner will have to answer questions in a multiple choice format (60 Questions).

The assessment will be taken under controlled conditions with a time limit applied

  • Questions will draw from the knowledge and skills elements of the standard and focus on the higher order competencies.

  • Material may be drawn from any part of the Apprenticeship standard.

  • Professional discussion with an independent assessor (50% of final grading).

  • The professional discussion will be of no more than 45 minutes duration.

  • Candidates can only apply to take the interview component once the multiple choice assessment above has been attempted.

  • The professional discussion will draw questions and amplifications from the supervisor, line-manager and other workplace evidence, witness reports from service users and a sample of standard candidate questions posed in the interview itself.
